Lewiston Navy Veteran Patrick Santos Jr. Receives a New Roof Through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project

On May 4, 2026, the Russell Quality Roofing crew completed a full roof replacement at the home of U.S. Navy veteran and retired law enforcement sergeant Patrick Santos Jr. in Lewiston, Idaho. The installation was donated through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, and Santos and his family paid nothing for the work.

These are the kinds of projects that matter to our team. Patrick Santos Jr. served his country and then spent his career keeping his community safe. When we had the chance to take care of his family’s home, we were glad to do it.

How the Roof Deployment Project Works

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project started in 2016 as a way to provide new roofs to military veterans and their families at no cost. The program connects Owens Corning’s Platinum Contractor network with nonprofits who help identify veterans in need of a roof replacement.

For this project, Purple Heart Homes, a nonprofit that provides housing solutions for service-connected disabled and aging veterans, selected and approved Santos as the recipient. The Owens Corning Foundation donated all roofing materials, and Russell Quality Roofing donated the labor and installation.

Since the program began, more than 775 veterans across the country have received new roofs.

About Patrick Santos Jr.

Santos served in the U.S. Navy and later spent his career in law enforcement, retiring as a sergeant. He and his family live in Lewiston.

When KLEW News interviewed Santos after the installation, he said the news caught him completely off guard. He and his wife had been working through their insurance company and thought everything was already taken care of. When Rueben told them about the Roof Deployment Project, Santos said he and his wife broke down.

“We wanted to do this right,” said Reuben Russell, owner of Russell Quality Roofing. “Patrick gave years of his life to this country and to this community. The least we could do is make sure his family has a solid roof over their heads.”

As with every roof replacement we perform, the installation included a complete tear-off of the existing roofing material, followed by a new Owens Corning roofing system installed to manufacturer specifications.

Other Local Businesses Pitched In

Word about the project spread, and other Lewiston businesses wanted to contribute.

Living Waters Lawn & Landscape volunteered grounds cleanup and maintenance at the Santos property. Bill Jollymore, who owns Jollymore’s Restaurant and is a longtime friend and former colleague of Santos, offered a complimentary dinner for the Santos family. In his KLEW interview, Jollymore said he wanted to give the family a night to relax and enjoy being together.

Not Our First Roof Deployment Project

This was not the first time Russell Quality Roofing has participated in the Roof Deployment Project. In June 2025, our team completed a roof installation for the family of Robert Bentley as part of Project 686, and we were honored to receive a recognition plaque from Owens Corning for that work.
